The Silwood Park Campus is home to around 50 PhD students who work on a broad range of projects in ecology, evolution, conservation and the environment. Many of our students work in collaboration with other organisations such as the Zoological Society of London, the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology, the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew and many more.

A PhD lasts between three and four years (full-time). Most of your time will be spent on your individual research project, with some additional training in transferable skills. Students on Doctoral Training Partnerships (DTP) programmes also take part in cohort training and research impact activities.

Doctoral Training Partnerships

We recruit students onto a number of Doctoral Training Partnerships:

The NERC DTP 'Science and Solutions for a Changing Planet', held by Imperial College London and partners including the Natural History Museum, the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew and the Zoological Society of London. Projects are advertised each year at the end of November.

The BBSRC DTP held by Imperial College London, Royal Holloway University of London, and the Research Complex at Harwell.

The NERC CDT in Quantitative and Modelling Skills in Ecology and Evolution (QMEE) held by Imperial College London and partners including the University of Reading, Cefas, Centre for Ecology & Hydrology and ZSL. (We have fully recruited our three cohorts for the QMEE and we are currently not taking any new students).
