AB - A study investigated rolled grease lubricant films applied on steel surfaces. This study focused on how the combination of high local shear stresses and the presence of the metal surface can lead to major changes in the chemistry and structure of grease lubricant films. Using IR reflectance microspectroscopy, this research determined the concentration and distribution of the grease components both within and outside the overrolled track. Changes in the film composition and the generation of new species, which were both the result of shear degradation, were observed. Original is an abstract.
