Course overview

Our Executive MBA is a 23-month part-time programme designed for senior executives wishing to accelerate their career. The EMBA's unique blend of on-campus learning – you'll attend three sessions on campus every four weeks - and online study tools will give you a thorough knowledge of essential business disciplines, opportunities to specialise in your areas of expertise and experiences to develop your global perspective on business.

Your journey will start with pre-study and core modules to build your foundation in business, followed by opportunities to specialise in your areas of interest with electives. Two international residencies will expose you to two of the most important economies in the world, outside of our base in London.

Alongside your modules and international experiences, you will embark on your own Executive Leadership Journey where you will be exposed to different tools, coaching and experiential learning situations. You will get to know yourself better, gain in confidence and ultimately change your behaviour to make the step from manager to leader.

The Executive will prepare you for the next level of your career as an innovative and inspiring leader.

Structure

Please note: it may not always be possible to take specific combinations of modules due to timetabling conflicts. For confirmation, please check with the relevant department.

These interactive modules focus on key concepts and their application to real-world problems. Delivered through The Hub, Imperial College Business School’s online learning platform, each module will take approximately ten hours to complete.

As part of your Executive MBA programme, you will complete core modules that cover the general functions of management, explore essential business topics and equip you with the skills to be an effective and inspiring leader in your field.

The Imperial Executive MBA electives allow you to specialise in areas of particular interest, developing your expertise with your future career objectives in mind. Our elective options also feature many modules that are offered online, ideal if you have a less flexible work schedule or commute long distances.

You can choose five electives. Electives run in the spring and summer terms of your second year.

Electives are offered in four formats to fit into your schedule:

  1. Online modules – perfect if you want to minimise your visits to campus, our award-winning highly interactive online modules allow you to study at your convenience.
  2. Two-week – Monday and Tuesday (week 1), Thursday and Friday (week 2)
  3. Weekend – Thursday afternoon, Friday, Saturday and Sunday morning
  4. IB Glocal Electives – Intensive study abroad programmes led by the Business School faculty to teach students how to explore contemporary global business problems with a local perspective

Elective modules

In order to make an impact on a global scale, you must understand the global environment in which you are working. As an MBA student, you will have opportunities to travel to international destinations to study at partner schools and work with local businesses.
