Before starting at Imperial, it is recommended that you familiarise yourself with the typical costs of living in London. This will help you to plan ahead and make suitable arrangements.
Additionally, you should be clear about how your doctoral degree is being funded. You should know the answers to these questions:
- Who will pay your tuition fees to College?
- Will you receive a stipend or bursary to support you for the duration of your degree?
- Who will pay for other expenses associated with your doctoral degree, for example research conference fees and travel expenses and specialist equipment and/or software (these types of expenses are typically known as consumables)?
If you have financial concerns or other worries, staff in the Imperial College Union Advice Centre are available to talk to you and will offer you their advice. The Student Support Fund is also available to students who are facing unexpected financial hardship.
