Student experiences:
Thanks to the generous funding from the Turing Scheme, I had the incredible opportunity to embark on a summer research visit in Toronto.
Experiencing a summer in a country I hadn't explored before was very rewarding. Exploring a new place is energising, with each day feeling fresh and having a sense of discovery. Toronto is a city with much to offer (especially the Blue Jays baseball team!). Additionally, I had the pleasure of venturing to various corners of North America, including the US West Coast, New York, and Montreal.
I've formed invaluable friendships with other students at the University of Toronto. They not only showed me the hidden gems of the city but also extended constant warmth and hospitality, making my time in Toronto truly special.
My research reaped immense benefits from this trip. Attending the Joint Statistical Meeting (JSM) while in Toronto provided an invaluable opportunity to engage with and learn from the foremost leaders in the field. I was very fortunate to work with Professor Nancy Reid, giving me the opportunity to access a wealth of knowledge and the chance to hear captivating stories about Sir David Cox.
Overall, I highly recommend the Turing Scheme to other students. I have gained invaluable skills and memories from my time in Toronto. I hope to visit again one day!
