We’re committed to reducing our impact on the environment and saving energy.
There are a number of sustainable initiatives that we have in place in our halls. This begins with our e-inductions for incoming students. As part of this, we have a module on sustainability, where we educate students on the university's commitment to reducing our impact on the environment, saving energy and Imperial's sustainability strategy. We also introduce the Sustainable Halls campaign.
The Sustainable Halls campaign is designed to engage students on environmental and social sustainability, introducing life-long sustainable living habits and reducing energy usage in halls of residence. Through a variety of engagement activities, the campaign builds students’ foundation of sustainability knowledge and carbon literacy, focusing on enhancing their skills and experience, mobilising them to lead on sustainability initiatives. The campaign runs as an interhall competition, where the hall which engages the most with it wins the opportunity to make a £250 donation to the charity of their choice. On top of that, many halls have their own bespoke activities - speak to your hall committee to find out how you can be more involved.
Throughout the year, we expect and encourage you to follow the three R’s: reduce the amount of waste you generate, reuse items whenever you can and recycle as much waste as possible.
Traid bins are available on campus for recycling unwanted clothes and shoes, whilst at the end of the year you can donate unwanted items to charity via the College’s end-ofyear re-use scheme.
