No matter if you are applying for a job in academia or moving outside, you will have to go through a highly competitive process. How do you create the right application documents that will secure you an interview? This course will help you to understand what a recruiter is looking for and how to create excellent CVs, cover letters and application forms.

This course is delivered by the Imperial Careers Service, who support all current PhD students with their careers and PhD graduates for up to three years after graduation.

Course Information

You will be referred to two optional activities to complete before the course. These should take no more than 30 minutes. Completing the activities will enable you to get more out of attending the course.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this course you will be better able to:

  • Recognise the different roles CVs, cover letters and applications have during recruitment processes
  • Evaluate what the reader will be looking for when they are reading application documents both for academic and industry posts
  • Identify areas from your own experiences that should be highlighted when tailoring your documents for different audiences
  • Construct a tailored CV, cover letter and application to give you the best chance of success on application
  • Know how to access further support from The Careers Service
