Background
In response to the COVID-19 lockdowns, the College implemented a stipend extension scheme to support students affected by the pandemic, whose funders were not able to provide a stipend extension. The College’s stipend extension scheme has now closed and Departments will be managing on-going applications for stipend extensions on a local basis together with corresponding fee free registration extensions.
Guidance for Departments on the Management of Stipend and Registration Extensions for Students Still Impacted by the Pandemic
It is recognised that some students are still being impacted by the pandemic and that their research has not been able to progress as planned through no fault of their own. To support students in this position, Departments are expected to manage on-going applications for stipend extensions on a local basis and corresponding fee free registration extensions.
To support departments with this work, the College Research Committee has approved guidance, developed by the Graduate School, together with the Research Office and the Registry: Guidance for Departments: Managing Stipend and Registration Extensions for Research Degree Students Still Impacted by the Pandemic v1
To accompany the guidance, a Flow Chart: Students Still Being Impacted by the Pandemic outlining the process has also been developed.
Importantly, registration extensions should be submitted to the relevant Student Records Manager using the Departmental Covid-19 Registration Extension Form Template, and stipend extensions should be submitted to the Bursary team.
