Research into the general aspects of nonlinear buckling theory is led at Imperial by Professor Ahmer Wadee with a focus on analytical modelling of the behaviour of structural components under a variety of different loading scenarios. Post-buckling behaviour is paramount and the more complex instabilities from interactive buckling leading to localization are particularly focused upon. There has been considerable work on the following topics:
- Buckling and delamination of sandwich structure systems
- Interactive buckling of thin-walled structural components
- Nonlinear mechanics and design of prestressed stayed columns
- Kink banding in layered structures and materials
- Analytical modelling of delamination and kink banding in composite laminates
- Localized buckling in tubes under bending
