There are three main page layouts (or templates) available to you in t4

  • Homepage - used on the Imperial homepage only
  • Landing page
  • Standard (content) page template.

The Landing page layout should only be used on main the landing page(s) for sections of the website. The vast majority of your pages will use the default template - the standard page. This is the layout being used for this page.

The standard (content) page

The standard page is made up of two main areas where content can be added.

  • General content area
  • HighlightBox (on the right hand side, this is an optional area that can be used to highlight particular content - this area is optimised on mobile)

Standard pages can also be used as sub-landing pages (a secondary main area with the overall section) and the illustration at the bottom of the page shows how the design could be used in this way.

Standard page layout areas

  1. Parent section title. This is the title of the main section that this page sits in.
  2. Page title and breadcrumb. This displays the page title according to the name that was provided when the page was set up. The breadcrumb trail shows the path to the page in the website structure.
  3. In this section menu. For sections that have one or more visible child pages, an 'In this section' menu will appear automatically at the top right. This floating menu block links to all this section's visible child pages, allowing for quicker navigation on the part of the user.
  4. Lead paragraph. The lead paragraph content type allows you to add some lead text to your page. Adding a lead paragraph summary to the top of your page is recommended as it will help visitors to quickly understand the purpose of the page and decide if it is useful, without having to scan or read all of it. Find out how to add a lead paragraph to your page.
  5. Highlight box. this is an optional area that can be used to highlight particular content - this area is optimised on mobile. Find out more about adding a highlight box to your page.
  6. Main content area. You can add a variety of different content types to the main area. This includes general content as shown in this example.
  7. Flexible content blocks. This is an example of one of the content types you can add to the main content area - Flexible image and text cards.
  8. Local footer. This area is optional and by default is not enabled and is used for key information or links that you want to display across all your pages e.g. contact details. If you would like a local footer on your pages please contact your Faculty Web Officer.

Landing page

Website section owners cannot change the page layout. If you have a standard page which needs to become a landing page, please speak to your Faculty Web Officer.

Landing pages are designed to be at the top level of your pages (i.e. a ‘homepage’). You will have just one of these pages.

Landing pages serve a number of purposes:

  • To make a clear visual statement that users are on a significant page;
  • To engage users and spark interest in content;
  • To give an overall impression of content within the section, as well as putting across branding messages, if appropriate;
  • To aid navigation to content lower down within the section, or in a related section.
