Whooping cough
Whooping cough (pertussis) is a serious lung infection that spreads easily. Vaccination is crucial for babies, children, and pregnant women. Post-COVID, infections have surged, and those with incomplete childhood vaccinations should consult their GP. Although rates have decreased since May, they remain high. The median age of cases is 17, but all age groups are affected. Pregnant women are advised to get the pertussis vaccine to protect their newborns, as whooping cough can be life-threatening and may require hospital treatment.
