Over the last 12 years, Guy Claxton, Co-Director of the Centre for Real-World Learning (CrL) and Professor of the Learning Sciences at the University of Winchester, has been working with a growing number of school teachers to uncover some small shifts in teaching method that encourage students to take more enthusiastic and imaginative responsibility for their own learning. For example, subtle shifts in the language we use to talk to and about students can have a powerful impact on the way they see themselves as learners, and on the way they engage with difficult subject matter. In this talk, Guy Claxton explored the implications of this research for higher education.
