Education Day 2013: creative curriculums: crossing boundaries
Monday 22 April 2013
Sir Alexander Fleming Building
South Kensington campus
Education Day took place on Monday 22 April. The event focused on concepts of creativity from a range of perspectives. Both internal and external speakers talked around the issue of designing curriculums and spaces which foster and nurture creativity in education. The event commenced with a welcome from Professor Debra Humphris, Pro Rector (Education), followed by a panel of speakers, which included Dr Eryl Price-Davies (Centre for Co-Curricular Studies), Professor Peter Childs (Engineering), Alison Ahearn (Civil Engineering) and Doug Hunt (Student Union) who all provided examples of innovative and creative curriculum designs at Imperial. Carl Gombrich (Programme Director for UCL's new arts and sciences programmes) delivered a speech on the progress of this innovative new approach to combining disciplines. This was followed by a round table session with questions and discussion. The afternoon finished with keynote speaker, Associate Professor Daniel Tan, Director, Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), whose talk provided an exciting opportunity to share good practice across our institutions.
