I am the Departmental Manager/Project Manager for the Ageing Epidemiology (AGE) Research Unit at the School of Public Health. My role mainly consists of overseeing the operational running of the Unit, working with the Unit’s leadership to implement and deliver the Unit’s overall strategy and goals. Day to day however, as we are one of the smaller teams within SPH, my role covers a wide range of functions, everything from managing the Unit’s finances and preparing budgets for new grant applications to setting up new research projects, advising on research governance, and handling HR. There’s never a dull day at AGE!
My biggest inspiration has been my team! The Unit has faced a lot of challenges over the course of the past year, but they have all been utterly amazing though it all. The Unit has always been a close-knit team, but despite the difficulties of remote working, everyone has really come together to support each-other and to tackle every hurdle that’s been thrown our way. Their attitude to the challenges faced has been inspiring! During the toughest of days, the support and kindness of my colleagues has been what’s kept me going.
Like for so many, lockdown meant taking a lot of walks around my local area. I’ve really enjoyed exploring the parks and neighbourhoods, something I’ve not really taken the time to do before. I’ve become appreciative of all the green spaces around me far more now!
