Imperial is participating in JISC’s Read and Publish Agreement with Springer Nature from January 2023.  It replaces a former agreement – for Springer compact which ran from 2015 and expired on 31 December 2022.

The agreement provides open access publishing for corresponding authors in Springer, Palgrave Macmillan, and Nature Research journals and read access to Springer journals, Academic journals on Nature.com, Adis journals, and Palgrave Macmillan journals.

This agreement does not include fully OA journals across the Springer Nature portfolio (BMC, SpringerOpen, Palgrave and Nature Portfolio). However, there will be a 15% discounted article processing charge (APC) available for these journals.

To be eligible, articles must:

  • Be in a participating journal (lists available from Springer Nature’s open access agreement for the UK page)
  • Have a corresponding author affiliated with an eligible institution
  • Springer agreement: original research and review articles, brief communications and continuing education articles.
  • Nature agreement: research articles, original paper (also referred to as Original Research, Original Article or Research Paper) analysis, brief communications, registered reports and technical reports.

After article acceptance, the corresponding author receives an invitation to complete the publication process for the article and the authors can identify themselves.

You must confirm that you are the corresponding author and that you are affiliated to an eligible UK institution. You are advised to use your Imperial College London email address instead of your private email address. This enables Springer to better identify you as eligible under the agreement.

Springer will verify the details with the OA Team and then your article will be published open access with a CC BY licence.

If you have any questions regarding this agreement or the process, please contact the open access team.
