This page contains important announcements relating to research management information:
Migration of reporting into Power BI [September 2021]
During 2021 the Research Office and ICT have been investigating using our OBIEE data warehouse to feed into Power BI to allow our reporting to be moved there. Amongst other things this would allow greater speed and flexibility of reporting and rollout to more users at a lower cost.
ICA / OBIEE 12c Upgrade [December 2020]
During December the underlying dashboard technology was upgraded from OBIEE 11g to 12c. This ensured that the dashboards can run without Flash which was decommissioned at the end of 2020.
Strategic Research Dashboard Revamp [September 2020]
The Research Office has redesigned the Strategic Research Dashboard to create a more intuitive portal with all relevant high level reports in one place. This includes easier search functionality, and the latest metrics.
Budget Reporting Changes [August 2018]
The Research Office will be changing the way that we report on research award volumes on the research funding dashboards and in our ad hoc reporting. This is in order to report more accurately on the date that the budgets which make up the award volume, are awarded.
Award volumes have previously been reported using the date an award was originally created, and any supplements or extensions or budget amendments appended onto that award creation date. Going forwards, budget amendments will be recorded against the actual date that the budget was amended.
For example, an award that started in 2015 with an extension in 2018 would show the full award budget in 2015. Going forward, the original award budget would show against 2015 but the extension would be reported against 2018. This gives us a better picture of research funding trends, putting award volumes into the years they relate to.
Note that some negative budgets may also appear, mainly where main department budgets have been reduced to create subprojects in other departments. We are excluding unspent balances at project closure as much as possible.
Commitment Detail Report [January 2015]
The Operational dashboards have been updated to include commitment transactions detail per project. This is accessible on most reports via the existing project number drill to Project Transaction Detail. Listed under the existing expenditure reports is a new Commitment Detail report. If commitments are present on the project, this report will detail them all, with subtotals per transaction type, plus a grand total.
