International research collaboration has huge benefits but there are important considerations that a Principal Investigator, project team members and Department need to be aware of and also some potential risks. Trusted Research guidance will help researchers make informed decisions when working with international collaborators, and the Export Controls webpage will provide guidance on when an export licence is required.
Equitable partnerships are fundamental to conducting research internationally in a responsible manner and researchers should take steps to ensure that research partnerships are undertaken in a way that is mutually beneficial to all partners and equal value is placed on each partners contribution at all stages of the research process. The UK Collaborative on Development Research (UKCDR) has a resource hub which aims to support all those involved in the research process to embed practices which ensure equity in the design, delivery and dissemination of research.
