Research facilities
We provide world class research facilities, ensuring our researchers have outstanding equipment for their work.
We collaborate with many other research institutions and universities to ensure our researchers have access to the very best facilities in the world."
Having access to advanced research facilities is a vital part of our pursuit of cutting edge research. We continually invest in resources and improve research facilities to ensure that our academic staff and students are able to pursue their ideas, undertake research and transfer their knowledge to ensure significant global impact.
We have state of the art research facilities across our campuses, which are supported by researchers who can advise on areas from experimental set-up to data analysis and visualisation. We also collaborate with many other research institutions and universities to ensure that our researchers have access to the very best facilities in the world.
The Brahmal Vasudevan Multi-Terrain Aerial Robotics Arena is the first of its kind in Europe. It is dedicated to the design, development and testing of novel mobile robots for various unstructured and extreme environments.

Imperial College Advanced Hackspace
The Imperial College Advanced Hackspace is a unique network of workshops, labs and co-location spaces housing bespoke and commercial prototyping technologies in one of the largest facilities of its kind in the world. In these creative facilities, Imperial staff, students, alumni and commercial partners from different disciplines work together to rapidly convert research ideas into breakthrough prototype products and solutions. ICAH’s mission is to make it easier for anyone at, or associated with Imperial, to make anything.
Data Observatory
The Data Observatory is the largest of its kind in Europe. It provides an opportunity for academics and industry to visualise data in a way that uncovers new insights, and promotes the communication of complex data sets and analysis in an immersive and multidimensional environment. The total screen resolution is 130 million pixels, made up of 64 monitors enveloping a circular wall, creating 313 degrees of surround vision.
Translational research imaging facilities
Imaging has become a key tool for unlocking the molecular secrets of disease. It can be used to follow and evaluate novel treatments in life, reduce the number of subjects required in clinical studies and contribute to personalised care. Imperial’s Hammersmith Campus houses state of the art pre-clinical and clinical imaging facilities supporting world leading translational research.
MRC-NIHR National Phenome Centre
The MRC-NIHR National Phenome Centre enables scientists to better understand and tackle diseases that are triggered by environment, as well as genetic causes, thereby increasing the potential to develop strategies for their prevention and treatment. The Centre is led by Imperial College London and King’s College London, and is funded jointly by MRC and NIHR.
