AB - Anchorage bolts are used in order to reinforce gallery roofs inside coal mines; an adequate non-destructive evaluation of their structural soundness is thereby necessary. Research has given rise to the introduction of guided waves as a means of examining anchorage bolts by use of the so-called "pulse-echo" method. Satisfactory low- and high-frequency modes have been identified thanks to a structural modeling program; moreover, experiments were conducted both in a mine and in the laboratory. This study also included applying the cable diagnostic method used in prestressed concrete bridges. Further work has shown that the proposed approach is indeed feasible and may lead to assessing other embedded structures as well.
