A model for predicting the properties of guided ultrasonic waves, and illustration of its application to NDT

    , Pages: 17-21, ISSN: 0963-3308

The development of model for prediction of properties of guided ultrasonic waves along with its applications to non destructive testing (NDT), was described. The guided wave inspection method involves construction of a matrix to describe displacement and stress fields associated with harmonic function propagating along a multilayered structure. Within each layer any admissible field was described by summation in specific quantities of a set of 'partial' waves. The global matrix was assembled and its coefficients were populated using trial values of frequency and velocity. A valid solution for a guided wave was found when a pair of these values yield a singular global matrix.
