The MultiSci MRC DTP at Imperial College are now open. It is possible for participants to apply for both this 4 year PhD programme as well as the MultiSci MRC DTP. This scheme provided an additional opportunity to study with us on a 1 + 3.5 year scheme. Applications should be made directly via the MultiSci DTP application process (deadline 21st November 2024). Both schemes welcome applications from international candidates. If successful, international students will receive identical funding. 

At this stage you do not need to apply to the MRes in Biomedical Research. If you are not successful in obtaining a place on the 1+3 PhD programme you will be able to apply for the 1-year MRes course afterwards if you wish.

At this stage you do not need to make a formal application for a PhD. Successful candidates will be sent full details on how to enrol on the course.

Whilst we would encourage candidates to consider areas of research that are of interest to them, candidates should not contact supervisors at this stage. The structure of the 4-year programme allows students to undertake two research projects in different groups during the first year and hence make an informed decision on their PhD project at the end of the first year.

No, candidates are not required to submit a project proposal. The one-page statement should indicate your motivation and interest in undertaking the 4-year PhD programme.

Due to the high volume of applications received each year, we are unable to accommodate individual visits. Short-listed candidates will be invited for an in-person for interview and will have the opportunity to meet current students at this time. Remote interviews may be considered.

No, this is an integrated 4-year programme and the first year MRes course is therefore a compulsory component. Whilst some students join straight from an undergraduate degree, the majority have already completed taught Masters courses.

Due to the highly competitive nature of our programme, all candidates should meet or expect to achieve the minimum entry criteria (1st class or upper 2:1 first degree or equivalent). All applications are reviewed and short-listed by a panel based on academic criteria. Since we receive a large volume of applications, we are unable to provide individual feedback to unsuccessful applicants.

This opportunity is open to students eligible for the UK home fee rate only, providing a tax-free stipend to cover living expenses at the UKRI minimum rate, £21,237 (inc. London weighting) for the 2025/26 academic year.  If you are an international student and would like to apply for a PhD in the department please refer to the international scholarship page and President’s scholarship.

The programme will begin at the start of the autumn term 2025.

Due to large volume of applications, we are only able to contact applicants shortlisted for interview and are unfortunately unable to provide individual feedback to unsuccessful applicants. If you have applied for 2024/2025 entry, the deadline was Monday 15th of July 2024 and interview dates are Monday 29th July 2024. If you have not been contacted by this time, unfortunately you have not been shortlisted.
