Qualifying in 1986 at the then Leeds West School of Radiography, Jonathan spent 11 years clinically, culminating in one of the first reporting radiographer positions in 1996. Moving to academia to teach the radiographic image interpretation certificate at Bradford University, Jonathan spent 15 years in the university sector, developing new courses at pre and post registration levels, setting up a new school of radiography in Carlisle and contributing to European educational network developments. With just over seven years split between Christchurch, New Zealand and Melbourne Australia in various senior academic roles, Jonathan returned to the UK via Aberdeen at Robert Gordon University before becoming a consultant radiographer for NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, developing a new team of reporters.
Contributions widely to government level developments followed in the nine years in Glasgow, with completion of a Doctorate in 2015 and recognition for work at the Society and College of Radiographers in 2016 and 2019. Several external examiner positions at under and postgraduate levels underpin his wide experience eventually resulting in the gaining of the Fellowship of the College of Radiographers in 2019 and developing his research focus by becoming a visiting Professor with the team at Ulster University in 2020.
Jonathan returned to his native Yorkshire in 2022 as the Lead Radiographer for the Yorkshire Imaging Collaborative where he brought his experience to the collaborative through developing the potential for the workforce change, academies and development of the whole radiology team.
In April 2024 Jonathan returned to academia as a senior lecturer at the University of Salford. Following the great strides already taken towards cross region reporting and working together in Scotland, Jonathan is keen to ensure through on going academic, professional body and clinical connections that the best care possible from diagnostic imaging is achieved within the diagnostic imaging department, research and education.
