The London School of Surgery Training Programme offers practical lab-based training to senior surgical trainees (ST3-ST6). Some of the procedures can be practised on animal tissue, normally porcine but occasionally sheep or turkey. However there are a number of important procedures for which human anatomy is quite different and for these procedures it is necessary for the training to take place on simulated models.
Many of the required models are not commercially available or not suitable for surgical teaching. The programme is at the forefront of high-fidelity surgical simulation model design and the faculty include a model designer and production assistant.
