Researchers in the Faculty of Medicine collaborate with colleagues in other departments and Imperial faculties and partner with leading external institutes to expand the possibilities of our science and drive multidisciplinary opportunities to solve real world challenges.

Multidisciplinary research at Imperial is supported through our cross-College Networks, Institutes and Centres of Excellence

Below are some of the key external academic partners that play a vital role in the collaborative life of our Faculty.

Academic Partners

MRC Laboratory of Medical Sciences

Hosted in the heart of our Hammersmith Hospital Campus, the MRC Laboratory of Medical Sciences (LMS) is an interdisciplinary research institute where scientists and clinicians collaborate to advance the understanding of biology and its application to medicine. Co-location with the hospital, the Faculty of Medicine and proximity to the Imperial’s life sciences hub and innovation district in White City enables their research to be underpinned by translation, clinical impact and training the next generation of leading clinical and non-clinical scientists. Together with IICR, Imperial has established the Cancer Research UK (CRUK) Convergence Science Centre and the Cancer Epidemiology Prevention Research Unit (CEPRU). The CRUK Convergence Science Centre aims to develop innovative solutions for cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment by combining engineering, physical sciences, life sciences with medicine. CEPRU aims to be a global leader in advancing research to understand the cancer continuum, from causes to clinical outcomes,  translating this into effective strategies for cancer prevention and early detection.

UK DRI

Imperial is one of the six founding members of the UK Dementia Research Institute (UK DRI), a national initiative to combat dementia. The Institute aims to transform treatment and care for people with dementia, through cutting-edge research in its seven centres located across the UK,  bringing people together for shared scientific inspiration, whilst making the most of cutting-edge tools and infrastructure locally. Imperial is home to two centres The UK DRI Centre at Imperial focuses on the earliest stages of dementia and the influences of the body, environment and lifestyle on the brain. while the UK DRI Care Research & Technology Centre, aims to empower people with dementia and their caregivers by creating dementia-friendly ‘Healthy Homes’ – intelligent environments that transform and personalise care.
