For staff and senior academics

The College has a site licence for Matlab and a number of toolboxes for installation onto College machines.

The licence has been funded by other faculties within the College. As a member of the Faculty of Medicine, we have to make a contribution towards funding the site licence if someone within the department requires a copy.

The annual charge per user for installation onto a College owned system is £200. You can install the software on your main College computer and a portable College computer. You will need to fill out a form for a 'standalone license on a College machine' from the ICT Software Shop website via the link at the bottom of this page. The form needs to be returned to a member of DIDE IT, along with a valid grant code, for processing. Please note that you will have to pay £200 every year that you want to renew the license.

If you think that you will be using Matlab for two or more years, you may wish to think about purchasing a license directly from MathWorks. This will cost £375, and is a one off payment for a lifetime license. This is the more cost effective method in the long term. If you would like to order a £375 license from MathWorks, contact a member of DIDE IT with a valid grant code.

You should be aware that the benefit of purchasing the £200 College license is that you get free upgrades for Matlab, and you also get a number of free toolboxes. The list of available toolboxes is on the ICT Software Shop web page (link below).

Additionally, if bought direct from MathWorks, please note that you cannot mix different versions of Matlab and toolboxes. So if you have Matlab R2008a, you won't be able to use a R2007a toolbox.

You will receive your Matlab key by e-mail from either ICT Software Shop or from MathWorks (depending on where it is purchased from), as well as the download location. Keep this information in a safe place in case you ever need to reinstall the software (e.g. if you get a new computer).

For students

PhD students can get a student version of Matlab for a one off payment of only $89. You must purchase it yourself from the Matlab website.
