The NHLI Athena Lecture series was launched in 2016 with the aim of increasing the profile and visibility of female academics. The lectures are chaired by the Institute Lead for Equality and showcase high-profile female scientists and their careers.
We have now held a series of succcesful annual lectures that have spanned a range of topics to increase awareness of women in STEM.

How can we change research culture?
On the 19 June 2020 Dr Charlotte Dean, Deputy Lead for Athena Swan hosted the annual Athena Lecture via a Team Live Event with three speakers:
Anne-Marie Coriat, Head of UK/EU Research Landscape at Wellcome Trust, who presented A View on Research Culture. Anne Marie heads the Research Landscape team at Wellcome and has over 25 years’ experience in planning, policy, delivery and funding of research. She led Wellcome’s work on developing a more positive culture for PhD training aimed at catalysing sustainable change in the culture of research training.
Dr Silvia Ferreira, Wellcome Trust ISSF Springboard Fellow & Dr Elaine Fuertes, NHLI Imperial College Research Fellow, then presented their shared talk on behalf of the postdoc community at the NHLI: NHLI Research Culture: The postdoc and fellow perspective.
