What attracted you to that course?
After completing my undergraduate degree in biochemistry, I wanted to deepen my knowledge on genetics and their connection to diseases, while also strengthening my laboratory and research skills. This course stood out to me as it offers both a taught component and a six-month research project, allowing me to achieve both objectives.
What specific aspects of the teaching or course format did you enjoy the most?
I particularly enjoyed the diverse range of lectures offered on this course, covering topics from molecular genetics and clinical genetics to population genomics. Additionally, the workshops and tutorials on bioinformatics and statistics, significantly strengthened my analytical and technical skills. The two weeks of wet lab practicals were also a highlight, as I had the opportunity to learn new techniques, such as the design of PCR primers, which we then applied in our experiments.
How do you think the course will impact your future career?
The course has helped me strengthen my laboratory; analytical; and written and oral communication skills, which will all be invaluable as I work towards my goal of earning a PhD.
