Food and Nutrition Student Research Network Conference 2023, 6th September 2023

The annual Food Student Research Network conference is a multidisciplinary event, being hosted on the 6th of September 2023 in the SAF building, in South Kensington. This conference is a great opportunity to showcase your work no matter how it considers food or food-related subjects. This conference is a great opportunity to meet fellow scientists working and learn about the cutting-edge research happening across Imperial College London!

Abstract Submission:

All MRes and PhD students from across the college are invited to register for the conference and will be expected to submit an abstract for a 10-minute oral presentation and/or research poster. Students in year 2+ of their PhDs are highly encouraged to apply for an oral presentation. All abstracts will be published in conference proceedings. The conference will be attended by students from a range of disciplines and scientific background related to food across the college therefore it is important to consider the audience in your abstract and presentations (maximum word count 350 words)

Deadline for abstract submission is 1st August 2023

The network brings together students from across ICL working in fields relevant to food and provides opportunities for networking, collaboration, community, and cross-disciplinary learning. The Food Student Network is led by students with each faculty having a student network manager representative. Further information about the network can be found on our webpages.

This event will be attended by students from a range of disciplines related to food across the college. The conference programme will be circulated in due course. The conference will be attended by academic staff and external partners.

Food and Nutrition Student Research Network Conference 2022, 13th September 2022

This in-person 1 day conference organised by and for the students of the Food and Nutrition Student Research Network aims to celebrate food related research conducted by students at Imperial College London. The conference is focused on your food related research and professional development. So, please, submit your abstract and come along to network, engage, and learn from peers across the college. All students attending are expected to submit an abstract (please, note that if you have just started your programme you can attend without submitting an abstract or present a literature review poster). You do not need to have a complete study to submit an abstract or present – partially complete, or even literature-based presentations are welcome to showcase the food research you are involved in or working on.

We are pleased to announce registration and call for abstracts for the Food and Nutrition Student Research Network Conference 2022 is now open. (Deadline: 1st August 2022).

This is a 1 day conference. The conference is student-focused towards your research and professional development and will be attended by students from a range of disciplines related to food across the college.  

The conference programme will be circulated in due course. We seek to also include events related to career support within the programme.

Outreach Event - Business Green Net Zero Festival, 28th and 29th September 2022

The network is seeking volunteers to be involved in an outreach event representing the Grantham Institute - Climate Change and Environment at the Business Green Net Zero Festival on Wednesday 28th and Thursday 29th September 2022.

You will be required to chat with event attendees about sustainable and healthy food, to help educate and encourage conscious dietary choices. You will be involved in running the stall, on behalf of the Grantham Institute, aiming to engage with festival-goers on the topic of sustainable and healthy food choices through running a sustainable food activity, sharing samples of sustainable food (such as insect snacks and seaweed crisps) and chatting to visitors about sustainable food.

The event will be held at the Mermaid Conference Centre, Blackfriars, London, UK.

Good Pipette Practice skills workshop, 20th October 2022
The "Good Pipette Practice" skills workshop will take place Thursday 20th October in the Meghraj Room in Hammersmith Campus.
 
Lead by experts from Mettler Toledo, this is an excellent opportunity to learn how to best use your pipettes and avoid inaccuracies or contaminations in your work. You will also find out how to reduce the aches and pains of pipetting and learn to recognise when your pipettes are not working properly.

Transforming Food Systems: An Agenda for Science, Policymaking and Investment by Dr Kalibata, 28th of November

The Global Development Hub is organising its 2022 Annual Lecture on Transforming Food Systems: An Agenda for Science, Policymaking and Investment by Dr Kalibata on Monday, 28th of November, 2022 from 17:30 – 18:30.

The event will take place at Lecture Theatre G16, Sir Alexander Fleming Building (dependent on ticket type) Imperial College London London SW7 2AZ, or you can access it virtually.

The Food Student Research Network is supporting this event. Members of the Food Student Research Network will be attending and presenting a poster. If you would like to attend, please, register. 

Microbiomes in the Gut, Health and Environment, 8th February 2023

The Food Student Research Network is starting the New Year with a seminar on the microbiome in the gut, in health and in the environment! World leading experts from the Technical University of Munich and Imperial College London will be at White City Campus to discuss the microbiome from different perspectives including medicine, engineering, and natural sciences.

The seminar is open to students and staff and will be followed by a networking session where you can meet Professor Dirk Haller from Munich together with Dr Rodrigo Ledesma Amaro and Professor Mathew Fisher from Imperial College.

This event is in association with Dr. Jia Li, Imperial College London.
