CoDiet at Horizon Europe
On December 13th, Imperial College brought together over 200 members of the European and global science communities to celebrate the UK’s association to Horizon Europe. CoDiet is one of the international research projects funded under the Horizon Europe scheme that was showcased at the reception.
The event was an opportunity for researchers, policymakers and partners and learn about some of the vital collaborations and science that EU programmes have supported at Imperial such as CoDiet. The project aims to use AI to better understand the relationship between diet and non-communicable diseases (NCDs). CoDiet is led at Imperial by Professor Gary Frost, Chair in Nutrition & Dietetics in the Department of Metabolism, Digestion and Reproduction.
In attendance on the evening were guests including EU Commissioners, Westminster lobbyists, members of the Biochemical Society and the Slovenian Minister Plenipotentiary. The attendees had the opportunity to see the prototype of an intelligent, wearable AI camera that will be trialled in the project, which displayed in real-time how the camera records what someone is eating. Dr Joram Posma also led a ‘Food 4 Thought’ exercise which exhibited how CoDiet are using Natural Language Processing (NLP) methods to automatically review scientific literature and identify the links that exist between diet and NCDs.
The evening was filled with excitement and optimism for a bright future ahead with Horizon Europe. Make sure to follow CoDiet on X and LinkedIn to keep up with the latest updates on the project.
