The Department of Brain Sciences’ mission is to develop and sustain a unique portfolio of translational research in neuroscience and mental health that is recognised internationally for scientific excellence and for leading innovation inpatient care.
Within the last five years, major investments have been made to expand and strengthen our research. New academic staff members have been recruited to create a new, stronger and realisable vision for neurosciences at Imperial College London. The creation of the Department of Brain Sciences, and the Divisions of Neurology, Neuroscience and Psychiatry, has aligned expertise and facilities development to create a dynamic multi-disciplinary research environment that can address national priorities for the life sciences.
The Department is home to the pioneering Centre for Psychedelic Research and leads both the UK Dementia Research Institute at Imperial and the recently-announced UK DRI Care Research and Technology Centre at Imperial. In addition, it hosts the Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson's Tissue Bank, a national collection of central nervous system (CNS) tissue samples donated by individuals with multiple sclerosis (MS), Parkinson’s disease and related neuroinflammatory and neurodegenerative conditions.
