What did you do before joining the scheme?

I graduated with a degree in Biomedical Science in the summer of 2023. Spending most of my course during the pandemic changed my outlook and led me to appreciate the adaptability and the potential of a career in finance.

What attracted you to the Scheme?

As someone with next to no background in finance, the scheme was the perfect opportunity to develop the essential skills and gain valuable experience. Something I had enjoyed during my time at university was that no two days were the same. The placement-based structure offered by Imperial guaranteed variety and the chance to explore my career options. With the scheme incorporating studying alongside working, it was the perfect continuation from university.

What has been the highlight of your time on the Scheme?

Without doubt the highlight of my time so far has been the people here at Imperial. We are often challenged to work on our independent projects, but are surrounded by a great support network to help with both our work responsibilities and our studies. We are also very fortunate to be able to work closely with senior management, and learn from their invaluable expertise. Working for a world class university unsurprisingly promotes an environment that supports personal development and gives you time to learn on the job.

What has been the biggest challenge?

My biggest challenge has been adapting to finance. With so much to take in at once, it was initially difficult to understand everything that was going around me. However, with constant exposure and support from the whole team I have learnt to develop a better understanding. I have been told many times that questions are not only welcomed but encouraged, which has been incredibly helpful. I am looking forward to working towards and completing my qualifications.
