Strategy

The HPRU in Modelling and Health Economics (MHE) contributes to and leads on a variety of Public and Patient Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) activities.

Our PPIE Strategy (pdf)‌ sets out our vision and approach to public and community involvement and engagement. It reflects the lessons learned from the PPIE structure of our previous HPRU (in Modelling Methodology), and complements our Knowledge Mobilisation strategy.

Involvement vs engagement

We use the INVOLVE definitions for involvement, engagement and participation.

Involvement
Patients and/or public are actively involved in the activities, organisation and governance of projects or units
e.g. representation on steering groups; development of research tools

Engagement
Information and knowledge about research is provided and disseminated
e.g. public events; lectures; media coverage

Participation
People take part in a research study (as subjects / participants)

PPIE Team

Our PPIE work is led by co-leads across the three Insitutes, with support and inputs from the HPRU Manager and staff across all research themes. Public Engagement activity is coordinated by the HPRU Manager.
