AB - Global anthropogenic CO2 production is vast, currently on the order of 35.5 Gt/yr or slightly > 910 million bbl/day of CO2. Due to serious environmental issues, the world has agreed to mitigate global warming and limit it to no more than 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels by the end of the century. One solution is the conversion of CO2 to useful products, e.g., fuels or plastics or otherwise use the CO2 in processes, e.g., CO2-EOR. This is broadly referred to as carbon capture utilization (CCU). The current scale of global CO2 utilization and the role of CCU option might play in mitigating climate change are discussed.
