PhD student in Mathematics Research Alberto is using a grant from the Dean’s Fund to travel to the US, where he will work alongside leading researchers in his field.
Alberto’s doctoral research focuses on model theory, a branch of mathematical logic concerned with the relationship between mathematical structures and formal languages. “My interest in the subject originated with a more general interest in logic. What makes model theory appealing to me is that it can be applied to a very diverse range of subjects within pure and applied mathematics.”
Thanks to the financial support of a grant from the Dean’s Fund, Alberto can spend 2.5 months at the University of Notre Dame in the US, working alongside Professors Anand Pillay and Nicholas Ramsey, who work on neostability theory, an area of special interest for Alberto. “The visit will allow me to work alongside both professors, incorporate their insights, experience, and deep knowledge to my own research, and undertake collaborative research, with the possibility and goal of publishing together.”
“Your contributions enable me and other recipients to take advantage of enriching opportunities that shape our futures.”
The research visit provides Alberto the opportunity to broaden his network further through connecting with members of the Notre Dame Logic Group, one of the largest research groups on model theory worldwide.
In the future, Alberto wishes to stay in academia and contribute to the development of the field as a researcher and professor.
