Invited speaker: Andrew Lobb, Durham University (confirmed)
The Young Topology Meeting UK is an opportunity for PhD students and early career mathematicians to present and discuss their work with other young topologists. Every participant is encouraged to present own research by giving a talk. The meeting is open to non-UK based topologists as well.
Date: Thursday 25th April (starting 2pm) – Friday 26th April (whole day), 2013
Venue: Imperial College London, South Kensington Campus, Huxley 139

We had participants from all over UK (6 from 3 universities in London , 19 from 9 other UK universities), 3 students from France and one each from Spain, Germany, France, Italy, Czech Republic and a visiting student from Japan.
From the registered View participants list 2013 34 attended the meeting. In addition, some people (about 10 over the two days) from Imperial Maths department joined us for selected talks.
As invited speaker, Dr Andrew Lobb gave a very much appreciated lecture. It included connections between different fields in which most of the participants are working in.

- Some funding is available for one night accommodation and for travel support. The amount depends on how many participants will need support. (Perhaps your university is able to support you as well!?) I will know how much support is available for each person who applied for after the end of the deadline end of februaury. Fortunately, funding is available for both UK and non-UK participants.
- Please indicate on the registration form If you want me to book accommodation. Rooms will be shared in hostels in walking distance.
- There are many options to travel to London on a low-budget. Do not forget to check busses if you are traveling in the UK. Helpful for those coming from outside UK are Eurostar and the low-budget airlines. Those usually have very good offers if booked quite in advance. The Airports are Heathrow, Luton, Gatwick and Stansted. All of them have frequent connections to Central London by trains and busses. The shuttles to central London usually take about an hour. Links and more informations can be found at the bottom of the page.
- We will be a group of topologists but working on different branches of the field. Please keep this in mind so that everybody will have a chance to get the main idea of a talk even if it might be not directly related to the own research. Reserve some time of your talk for questions.
- We have whiteboards and Computers for slide shows available. Please let me know if you need anything special (I have rope, glue, scissors etc in my office).
- As almost everyone wants to speak, we are going to have 20 min talks only to give as many as possible the option to present their work.
We had a very successful Young Topology Day at Imperial in 2012, organized by Karin Valencia.
Public transport in London: http://www.tfl.gov.uk/
Get an Oystercard (£5 deposit) if you use public transport. It is always cheaper to travel with it.
National rail: http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/
Eurostar (from France or Belgium): http://www.eurostar.com/dynamic/index.jsp
From Gatwick to London: http://www.gatwickairport.com/transport/to-london/
I am always choosing "Southern only" as it is the cheapest train option or a bus shuttle. The Gatwick express is more expensiv e but much faster. If you want to go with easybus, you have to buy tickets online from / to Gatwick in advance as they operate with small busses.
From Luton to London: http://www.london-luton.co.uk/en/airport/
I am always going by bus as it is cheaper and more convenient then the train - To go to the train station requires a bus shuttle. Easy bus and green lin e s a r e operating a big coach to central London together. I always got a seat half an hour before or after my booked slot. Booking online in advance is recommendet as there is a discount.
From Stansted to London: http://www.stanstedairport.com/transport-and-directions
The bus shuttle run by national express is good. Booking online in advance is recommendet as there is a discount. If you want to go with easybus, you have to buy tickets online from / to Stansted in advance as they operate with small busses. Trains are going to Liverpool Street Station.
From Heathrow to London: http://www.heathrowairport.com/transport-and-directions
The easiest and cheapest option is to take the underground. The line stops at the college. Get off at Gloucester Road Station (pronounced "glɒstər") or South Kensington Station.
