Please note, this event is now fully booked.
On 20 September 2023 the Centre for Systems Engineering and Innovation will host the yearly flagship Showcase event. The event, which will take place at our South Kensington campus, celebrates the Centre’s research achievements during the previous year as well as our engagement with industry and policy. The event is also an occasion to hear from thought leaders in the fields relevant to Systems Engineering and Infrastructure and our research agenda.
As you know, we at the Centre have a particular focus on how we can continue to provide excellent and fit for purpose infrastructure in a sustainable, cost-effective and fair way, while at the same time minimising its impacts on environments. To this end, we advocate for an approach that sees all stakeholders working in a collaborative way. You can find more information on our research focus and download our strategy report here.
This year, we will focus on ‘Systems: What next?’, and specifically on how academia, industry and policy can work together to enable outcome-based decision-making that drives more comprehensive social, environmental and economic value. This year, we will also be launching our working paper titled Systems Approaches to Infrastructure – A Shared Perspective. With contributions from over 30 industry, policy and academic leaders, the WP sets out why all sectors and disciplines must work together to enable a systems approach to infrastructure to achieve positive outcomes for both society and our planet. Systems Approaches to Infrastructure – A Shared Perspective brings together theory and practice to identify the core concepts that will guide the transition to a systems approach to infrastructure and put systems thinking at the heart of how we design, manage, build, use and decommission our existing and new infrastructure, including the built environment. We strongly believe that only through a systems approach we can have a significant impact on addressing complex global challenges such as achieving low-carbon, resource-efficient, nature-positive and socially just futures for urban areas and infrastructure, which are systemic in nature.
