In an increasingly digital world, staying ahead of the curve is essential for people in all kinds of organisations, from schools, colleges and universities, to NGOs, charities and businesses. High quality planning and communications strategies are essential.
Using role play, discussion and tutor presentations we will explore how effective communication strategies are at the heart of any attempt to understand and thrive in the new digital environment.
Across ten sessions, you will explore the fundamentals of digital transformation and the role of self-assessment and analysis, planning and communications in approaching emerging digital trends, and practical methods for applying these concepts to your own communication and planning strategies and development projects.
This course is hands-on and you will be working on your own personal project leading to a final presentation in the last week of term.

Week 1 - Fundamentals of digital transformation
- Defining the key concepts and principles of digital transformation
- Identify the drivers and barriers to digital transformation in various industries
- Analyse case studies to understand successful digital transformation initiatives
Week 2 - Digital trends
- Examine current and emerging digital trends and their impact
- Evaluate the potential of technologies such as AI, IoT, and blockchain
- Discuss the implications of digital trends for future strategies
Week 3 - Your path to digital transformation
- Develop a personalized digital transformation roadmap for your organisation
- Assess your organisation's current digital maturity and readiness
- Formulate actionable steps to initiate your digital transformation journey
Week 4 - Introduction to Design Thinking
- Understand the principles and stages of the design thinking process
- Apply design thinking techniques to identify user needs and problems
- Experiment with ideation methods to generate innovative solutions
Week 5 - Understanding the user
- Conduct user research to gather insights and understand user behaviour
- Analyse user personas and journeys to identify pain points and opportunities
- Synthesize user feedback to inform the design and development process
Week 6 - Storytelling methods
- Explore different storytelling techniques and their applications
- Create compelling narratives to communicate your vision and ideas
- Utilise storytelling to engage stakeholders and drive change
Week 7 - Turning your ideas into a tangible artefacts
- "Prototyping" ideas using various tools and techniques

- Present your final "artefact", showcasing value and potential impact
Week 8 - Think ike a futurist
- Forecast future trends and scenarios to inform strategic planning

- Articulate a clear and inspiring vision statement for your digital transformation project

Your Tutor
Dr Tatiana Codreanu holds a PhD in Applied Linguistics. Her doctoral dissertation presented a transdisciplinary research on digital communication, design thinking, user experience and cognitive psychology.
Tatiana has extensively participated in research projects, presented at numerous international conferences, published papers and serves as a peer reviewer in international academic journals. She has extensive experience in designing and implementing innovative methods for start-ups, edtech companies, and senior executives. Her work brings together elements from across disciplines such as economics, user experience, motivation, storytelling and her experience creating entrepreneurial/start up case studies.

Late enrolment
It is possible to enrol on many of our adult education courses after the course has already started. For non-language courses this is subject entirely to agreement by the tutor. For language courses it is subject to agreement by the language coordinator conducting level assessment. If you want to join a course late do bear in mind there might be work you will need to catch up on, particularly in language courses.
Friends and Family Scheme

Enrolment via the blue booking link is open. Early-bird discounts are available until the end of 30 September 2024
Enrolment and payment run through the Imperial College eStore. When enrolling:
- Do check on the drop down menu above called "Course Fees and Rate Categories" to see if you are eligible for a discounted rate and also do make sure you select that rate when enrolling on the eStore
- If you are a first-time eStore user you will need to create an account before enrolling. You can do this by entering an email address and password. This account can then be used for any future enrolments via the eStore.
