The panel was followed by a Q&A hosted by Professor Julie McCann, Faculty Ambassador for Women and Vice-Dean (Research) for the Faculty of Engineering.
Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering International Women in Engineering Day: Alison Irvine, Transport Scotland
Tuesday 2 July, 12.00-13.00, Lecture Theatre 201, Skempton Building, South Kensington Campus
Alison will share her experience in forging a career as a woman in a male dominated industry, the challenges and barriers she has faced, how she coped with these and learned from them. She will highlight the attitudes encountered, both positive and negative, and how these have influenced and shaped her values and principles as a leader. Alison will also reflect on the changes she has seen within engineering during her career, as well as sharing her thoughts on what the future may hold for women in engineering.
Alison will draw on her experience from her time with the Scottish Government, Transport Scotland, the development of the new National Transport Strategy, the transport aspects of the Climate Change Plan and setting the investment priorities for transport across Scotland through the second Strategic Transport Projects Review.
