Professor Pasa Yayla left Imperial College to work as an academic in universities in Turkey (currently at Marmara University) and as an R&D Manager.
Can you tell us about your studies at Imperial?
"I remember there being a friendly, warm atmosphere and a productive environment. After completing my PhD degree, I worked as post- doctoral research fellow in the mechanical engineering department for about two years. During that period I had also membership in a couple of the department’s committees. Most of all I remember taking advantage of the expertise in research and having a chance to contact and work with a wide range of academics from all around the world."
What jobs have you done since graduation?
"After returning to Turkey in 1993, I started working as lecturer for Kocaeli University. In addition to my academic career I have worked as a part-time R&D manager for a multi-national company in Turkey for about 15 years. Currently I am the head of the mechanical engineering department in Marmara University in Istanbul, Turkey."
What are your plans for the future?
"To be productive until the last minute."
What would be your advice for current students?
"To enjoy every second of their stay at Imperial College."
What’s the most difficult decision you’ve ever had to make?
"Whether to leave Imperial College for Kocaeli University or not."
What are you most proud of in your life?
"I had a chance to meet so many people from all around the world during my stay at Imperial College."
