Education and accreditation of our teachers
Many staff are recognised Fellows of the Higher Education Academy, find out more about applying for HEA Fellowship.
The department has a number of Teaching Fellows which have a focus on education from delivery to strategic planning. Our teaching fellows have reach across the whole curriculum including the undergraduate Geology and Geophysics courses, field teaching, and our MSc courses. Our teaching staff are also supported by and have close links with the Imperial College Educational Development Unit.
Review and improvement of teaching
We regularly review and update our courses in light of advances in subject based research and new technologies. We blend traditional and contemporary teaching methods appropriate to learning outcomes to create graduates with diverse skills and knowledge. Read more about our innovations in learning, for example making our teaching more interactive.
Pedagogy and recognition
Pedagogic Study
A number of members of the department also undertake their own pedagogic study and develop new methodologies. In particular, but not exclusively, we evaluate and promote the place of modern field based teaching in the modern Geoscience curriculum, develop new ways of teaching aspects of lab based geochemistry and develop and promote the teaching of computer programming to geoscientists.
