Welcome to the Department of Computing at Imperial College London
Our Department of Computing is proud to offer a research-led education environment that values and invests in people. We conduct world-class research and transfer this research into our teaching. We are privileged to have such talented students and to educate them to become future leaders in ICT, Engineering, and industry verticals.
Our strategy is centered around people, where Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion are core principles that inform all our activities. We are eager to increase our percentage of female students and female academics and want to further improve the diversity of our staff and student population. Diversity is also seen as a key ingredient for shaping the future of higher education. Our department will co-lead this global effort of creating innovative and impactful teaching and research environments.
Our taught courses give students a solid grounding in the foundations of the discipline but also teach them how to build, program, and validate real systems. These courses are therefore challenging and put our graduates in high demand by large companies and SMEs alike. For undergraduate studies, we offer BEng/MEng degrees in Computing and joint BEng/MEng degrees in Computer Science and Mathematics.
Our postgraduate degrees reflect the breadth of the discipline, topical subject and application areas and offer a course for those who did not study Computer Science as a first degree.
Our research environment is structured around research themes that reflect the breadth and depth of our world-leading academics, post-doctoral researchers, and PhD students. We have extensive industry collaborations with leading global companies, SMEs, and startups – across many sectors. Several of our academics work in industry, create their own startups that make successful acquisition exits, or hold prestigious Research Fellowships or Research Chairs - attesting to the vibrancy of our research.
Our department is fortunate to have a strong team of Teaching Fellows who work with our research staff and academics to provide high-quality and student-focused teaching and outreach activities. Our Administrative Staff and departmental Computing Support Group are working hard to ensure that our teaching, research, and outreach activities run smoothly.
Our department is defined by its people and we warmly welcome future students, researchers, and staff from all over the UK and the world: we are an inclusive environment that delivers excellence in research, teaching, and impactful applications of our research and teaching outcomes.
