Work with us
Whether you're an investor, industrialist, alumni or researcher/student, we have a range of opportunities for all, and we would like to engage you.
A key event on our calendar is an annual ChemEng Enterprise Day, showcasing the emerging spinouts from the Department and keeping tab on progress of those launched recently. Reach out to Geetanjali Bathina for further information about our next event, scheduled for 30 April 2025.
Opportunities
Early-stage investment in several of our recent spinouts followed very early encounters (some even pre-launch) by companies and individual angels in our network.
Get to know our spinoff companies and technologies from the earliest stage, appreciate the pipeline through our network events, meet the teams, and be in the loop when they launch. We follow the progress of our companies as they grow, so opportunities arise for later stage (series A, B etc.) funding as well.
Tell us about your investment priorities, strategies and preferences (and your own events), allowing both of us to target opportunities, increasing efficiency and effectiveness.
We can organise introductions, pitches and where of interest, individual appointments.
Our deep-tech spinout companies and technologies typically address engineering and process challenges in complex supply chains, where materials and component suppliers, makers, licensors, distributors, service providers and end-users can all benefit from research breakthroughs and innovation in some key step.
Many of our spinoffs have involved establishing such partnerships in early-stage demonstrations, feasibility studies and process scale up (either individually or with other companies in the supply chain)
Such projects will allow you to meet the teams, assess the technical, economic and partnering potential of the technologies involved, work with the spinoff teams, and influence their technology and commercial development.
Our network events will give you an early appreciation of what is coming through the pipeline and get a preferential foot in such discussions (or even corporate investment) if appropriate.
Several of our alumni have given some of their time pro-bono to advise and mentor our recent spinoff teams.
The spinoffs have benefitted greatly from such discussions and the challenging questions posed when defining a business model, technology and business development strategies, and economics.
Particularly important has been the understanding and experience of our alumni in industries very relevant to the deep tech innovations involved. Our alumni/mentors have also been invaluable in providing industry contacts and introductions. This has resulted in better prepared teams, better plans and greater credibility with Imperial College (for launch permission) and investors.
In turn, the alumni/mentors have very much enjoyed being part of a new adventure in some exciting new potential solution to the challenges of our time, whether to do with the circular economy or energy storage.
In some cases, the mentoring pre-launch has been followed up by positions in an Advisory Board.
Researchers (PhDs, Postdocs and Research Fellows) are typically the driving force for most IP-intensive spinouts.
We are keen to hear from you and your supervisors at the earliest possible stage, well ahead of publication and/or discussions with potential collaborators (both of which may compromise IP protection and commercial prospects).
At present, we are not specifically focused on fostering undergraduate student spinouts, for which Imperial already offers a vast range of support, but always open to hear from you and help to point you towards suitable Imperial mechanisms.
