Neurotechnology is an emerging discipline that involves the development of techniques to understand, repair, replace, enhance, or otherwise exploit the properties of neural systems, and create novel neural interfaces. This is complemented by our activity in using robotics to investigate biological systems, develop truly useful rehabilitation technology, and exploit bio-inspired robotic strategies. This research is closely linked with the Centre for Neurotechnology, which coordinates interdisciplinary research on brain technology across Imperial College's Faculties of Natural Sciences, Medicine and Engineering, as well as with the Imperial Robotics Forum, which coordinates and supports robotics research and education.
Our investigators are uniquely qualified to solve design problems at the interface of living neural tissue and non-living constructs, investigate and develop human and robotic systems, and address brain-related health challenges such as stroke, hearing disorder, traumatic brain injury and dementia.
