Led by Imperial College London, SUCCEED is using computer models to investigate alternative injection and reservoir performance scenarios.
They will use pre- and post-CO2 injection simulations of the changes in reservoir pressure, associated geochemistry and geomechanical reservoir properties. The models will be calibrated using historical and project-obtained monitoring data. A key part of the workwill be the fault/fracture behaviour and potential for induced seismicity with different injection/production scenarios.
Project activities
The main objectives for this side of the project are to:
- Establish a better understanding of the processes currently involved in the geothermal field at Kizildere through reservoir simulation and model calibration against historical operational data
- Use the calibrated reservoir model of the Kizildere field to evaluate the performance of the planned field CO2 injection, particularly in terms of maintaining reservoir pressure and the fate of injected CO2, in conjunction with the monitoring results.
- Analyse the reactive transport model, which already exists for the Hellisheidi site, to aid the design and implementation of the seismic monitoring campaigns.
