AB - This paper presents a thorough investigation of 3D calculation of the specific absorption rate (SAR) distribution in a realistic model of the human head exposed to electromagnetic fields generated by mobile phones. The calculation was made using the FDTD. The source was modeled with a power of 600 mW, as a monopole fed with a current of 300 mA, and variable frequency in the range of 800 MHz to 1.8 GHz. The human head model has a precision of 1.11 mm x 1.86 mm x 1.11 mm in the x, y and z directions, respectively; and is composed of 12 different tissues: air, bone, ERL, brain, skin, muscle, fat and eye (composed of cornea, anterior chamber, lens, vitreous body and sclera). This very fine model allows accurate SAR calculation in different tissues which may have been overlooked in other models.
