Our Technical Services Team covers a very wide spectrum of activities, including management and support of hardware and software teaching laboratories, electronics and mechanical workshop facilities, and the department Stores.

Vic Boddy
Electronic Support Group Technician
As part of the three-person team managing the undergraduate laboratories on Level 1, Vic contributes towards organising the space, managing the laboratory’s safety and preparing the area ready for new laboratory experiments. He has vast experience of circuit design and troubleshooting, so as time permits he supports teaching in the laboratory. His electronic engineering skills are also used in circuit development and construction for new laboratory experiments.

Amine Halimi
Workshop Laboratory Technician
As part of the team of three managing the undergraduate labs on Level 1, Amine's primary role is repair of equipment for the whole department. Amine is also a part-time member of our Computer Support Team, developing apps and IT systems to support a busy department. As well as contributing towards organising the space, developing new experiments, managing safety and preparing the area ready for new laboratory experiments, he also runs a 3D printing service which is very useful during student project time. Amine will carefully check student designs for validity before committing to the printer. He has great experience of circuit design and troubleshooting, so as time permits he also supports teaching in the laboratory.

Danny Harvey
Technical Services/MSc Laboratory Manager
Danny is the manager of the Technical Support Team and has the responsibility of the overall smooth running of the team and the strategy of the service.

Victor Iswa
Assistant Storekeeper
Victor supports the Stores Manager in ensuring the Stores is efficiently managed so as to deliver a number of different services. His responsibilities include: managing deliveries , counter services (purchase stock items), student project ordering, purchasing for teaching and research, reprographics service, equipment loan service, laptop loan service and Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) of all mains equipment arriving in the Stores.

Phil Jones
Mechanical Technician
Phil manages our Mechanical Workshop on Level 1. He supports both teaching and research with his mechanical engineering skills, and is available to help staff and students in developing and improving their ideas. Phil also manages the movement of bulky and heavy loads in the department, and he is a member of our department's Health and Safety Committee.

Hisham Maarki
Stores Service Manager
Hisham is the Manager of our department Stores, which is central to the many of the services the Technical Services team provides. His responsibilities include: managing deliveries, counter services (purchase stock items), student project ordering, purchasing for teaching and research, accounting including virtual credit card, reprographics service, equipment loan service, laptop loan service, Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) of all mains equipment arriving in the Stores.

Paul Norman
Laboratory Manager and AV contact
Paul manages the Level 5 Project Lab ensuring a high level of safety for all the student projects and managing the equipment, desk assignments and compulsory project risk assessments. He also manages the Portable Appliance Testing for the lab, and oversees the Robotics Society that are resident at one end of the laboratory. Paul also is the first point of contact for department AV issues, deciding if faults can be repaired in-house or escalated to central ICT services.

May Tang
Electronic Support Group Technician
As part of the three-person team located in the laboratories on Level 1, May is the primary organiser of the laboratory, dealing with lab schedules and timetabling and ensuring the correct equipment is set out. She has a huge experience of electronic fabrication, and these electronic engineering skills are also used in circuit development and construction for new laboratory experiments.
