The fumehoods in our Nano Lab are all HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) filtered for safe work on nanoparticles that may become airbourne. These HEPA cabinets will accelerate work that uses unique chemistry to dissolve and functionalise carbon and other nanotubes and graphene-related materials to produce a range of products including:
- Ultra-high strength, and potentially self-healing, replacements for carbon fibre
- High performance electrochemical electrodes for supercapacitors, electrocatalysts, and fuel cells
- Highly conductive, transparent electrodes and devices
- Multifunctional structural power devices
In addition to the opportunities for nanoscience and practical nanotechnology, we take nanosafety seriously, and collaborate with the National Heart and Lung Institute (NHLI) on nanotoxicology which is also highly relevant to conventional airbourne pollution in general.
