The SciComm Series is a training series across 6 months, students attend a training session each month across term 2 and 3 on a different aspect of science communication. This is mandatory for those in their MRes year and optional for all other years. It includes external speakers and researchers as well as internal speakers, giving students a breadth of understanding on what opportunities are available to them within and external to the college, with workshops and training on specific subject areas like scientific writing or illustration.

The ICB CDT believes science communication is an important facet to the future generation of multi-disciplinary scientists. This is a broad topic and we have developed this series to support students with their studies and extra-curricular activities. It also supplements our Science and Communication with the BBC course, which has proven incredibly popular with students by giving them practical experience in radio, podcasting, TV and developing exhibits.

Previous years have included live podcast recordings from Why Aren't You a Doctor Yet?; Creative Scientific Storytelling from author Dr Anna Plozajski; User-Centred Design workshops from engineer George Cave; Scientific Illustration from Sumana Shrestha, lead illustrator of Knowing Neurons and many more.
