• Creative Facilitator (artist) - freelance
  • Festival programme coordinator (x2) - freelance

1. Creative Facilitator (artist) (freelance)

A great opportunity for a Creative Facilitator (artist) to co-lead the development and delivery of the Young Producers 2025 programme, alongside the Project Lead. This role will create the project’s final art and science installation, and support the programme activity during the Great Exhibition Road Festival.

The Young Producers programme runs from January to June 2025 and invites a group of 8-12 local young people aged 18-25 to work with researchers from Imperial College London and an artist (the Creative Facilitator) to co-produce an art and science interactive installation that features in the Great Exhibition Road Festival.

This is an ideal role for a facilitator and working artist with experience facilitating co-production projects, working with young people (18-25 years old) from under-represented backgrounds, and creating creative outputs inspired by others.

The role will involve two main strains of work:

  • Development and delivery of the Young Producers co-creation sessions, working collaboratively with the Project Lead: This includes weekly 2h sessions (from January to June 2025), 4 external trips (to exhibitions, galleries or events) and the participation in two main Imperial events (the Imperial Lates event in March and the Great Exhibition Road Festival in June)
  • The responsibility of creating the physical final art and science installation for the Great Exhibition Road Festival, based on the concept co-produced in the programme sessions.

To succeed in this role, you’ll need to be experienced and comfortable planning and facilitating programmes with young people, including co-production. You will be able to work collaboratively with the project lead, ensuring continuous communication. You will be confident exploring complex research topics, and facilitating sessions that allow young people to explore those topics. You will be able to work with a variety of stakeholders, including Imperial researchers, building positive relationships.

You will also be a successful working artist that can create artwork to a high standard that is based in the concept created by young people through the co-production sessions.

These are ideal roles for those with experience project managing the production of large-scale public events and festivals, as well as working with scientists on creative ways to engage the public with complex topics.

Each of these two roles have a distinct focus:

  • One will be looking after the Family Fun Zone, which is the Festival’s dedicated space for family audiences. It includes a amily zone stage, which will feature a two-day line up of family friendly shows and performances.
  • The other role will look after 2-3 smaller and more specifically themed Festival zones, each offering a mixture of content that will appeal to adult and family audiences alike.

These roles will centre around taking a range of proposals for creative exhibits, artistic workshops, live experiments, and engaging talks from Imperial College London researchers and festival partners – and turning them into exciting and engaging zones where visitors can have a memorable and unique experience learning about science and exploring their creative side.
