Provide expertise, inspiration and advice to Imperial students and help prepare them for life beyond Imperial. Supporting a student doesn't need to be a big time commitment - from answering a one-off question by email, to becoming a mentor, there are plenty of opportunities to make a difference.
Opportunities
- Mentor a student
- Provide a work placement or internship
- Answer a student's question online
- Feature in an alumni profile
The Alumni Mentoring Scheme pairs you with a current student to help to develop their confidence and insight into job roles and work sectors. The Scheme promotes and supports a structured relationship between alumni and students, whereby alumni can share their professional experiences, personal insights and employability advice with students to increase their understanding of career opportunities and help to develop their confidence when thinking about their career planning.
The programme is aimed at current Imperial students across all degree disciplines and prioritises students who meet the College's widening participation criteria.
As a Mentor you will have an opportunity to develop your mentoring and coaching skills as well as staying connected with student life at Imperial today.
Find out more about the role of a mentor and register your interest for the 2024/25 scheme.
Location: Worldwide – we encourage applications from all alumni as mentoring can be undertaken remotely.
Time commitment: A minimum of five in-person or virtual interactions across seven months.
Deadline: Registration for the 2024/25 scheme will open in September 2024.
Why not consider providing an internship/placement or graduate job to an Imperial student? We are happy to hear about opportunities for our students and graduates at any time of the year.
- Placements are normally for between six months and one year in length and are usually related to degree disciplines.
- Internships are normally for between six and ten weeks over the summer vacation and do not have to be degree related.
You can get in touch with our Placements & Internships team to discuss potential options. If you’re looking to recruit on campus or promote your organisation, you can find out more about the full range of services available on our Information for Employers page.
The Ask an Alum programme provides an opportunity for current Imperial students to connect, learn and develop their career insights from Imperial graduates.
As an Imperial graduate with experience of employment, you are in a unique position to offer advice to current students of Imperial who are interested in a career in your chosen profession.
You can volunteer to join the programme and respond to one-off career related questions from students wanting to find out more about your role or sector. Ask an Alum is a quick and impactful way to share your experiences and knowledge in a format that suits your schedule.
